3 Ways Friend Lists Can Make You More Productive on Facebook

Friend lists are one of my favorite tools for the direct seller in Facebook, and can be an incredible help in staying on task when doing business activities on Facebook.

What is a Friend List?  It’s a way to organize your friends into groups on Facebook (only for your own purposes…they don’t know they’re on a list), so you can either look at the updates from one group only, or send an update to just a particular subset of your friends.

So how does that help the direct seller? There’s a number of ways:

  1. You know that social media ADD?  You start doing one thing, get 13 notifications, and 2 hours later you realize you never finished the first thing?  Well lists can help with that.  By putting, for example, just your customers into a specific list, you can then ONLY view updates from that list by clicking on the list in the sidebar.  So instead of getting distracted by the party your friends are throwing tomorrow, you can stay on task during your scheduled business time.
  2. You know those value-filled tips and advice you’re always sharing (you are sharing them, right?) with your prospects?  Well maybe Aunt Wanda and Uncle Floyd don’t have any interest in them whatsoever.  Rather than subjecting them to a constant stream, send a targeted update just to those lists who are interested.  Just click the little lock icon under the publisher box when you type your message, click Customize, and choose “Make Visible to Specific People.”  Then you’ll be able to type in the list or lists that you want to see that message, without bothering Aunt Wanda and Uncle Floyd.
  3. If you use Facebook Chat to follow up with hostesses, lists can come to your rescue again.  There’s nothing worse than receiving 15 chat messages when you’re trying to get work done.  Save yourself some headaches, and make yourself visible to ONLY your hostess list when doing hostess coaching follow-ups on Facebook.  Just click the little green slider next to each list name in your chat window.  Easy!

By taking advantage of Friend Lists, you can enjoy more productive time on Facebook, without the distractions that can often occur.

How do you use Friend Lists?  Would love to read your thoughts in the comments below!

Absolutely LOVE friends lists! If I have a client that is offering a special on their product of service, I can send it to just the people in the area they are currently serving.
Thanks for all of your fantastic tips Jennifer.

I use friend lists and LOVE it! Definitely a more productive way to scroll through the news feed and keep in touch with friends, family, hostesses and clients. Great post Jennifer!

Thanks for the great tips Jennifer. I was thinking just last night that I need to group my friends into specific lists.

And I had no idea you could send status updates to different lists. Awesomesauce!
