“Eat, Drink, and Be Manly”

I don’t normally write about individual direct selling companies. Company-neutrality and all that.

And it’s still my rule.

But sometimes rules are made to be broken, and today is one of those days. I got an email a couple of weeks ago from Nick Beste. 2 1/2 years ago, while he was in college, he started a direct sales company for the guys. You see, direct selling is primarily inundated with products that appeal to women. It is our primary market, and we get together, eat cheese and drink wine, and shop together.

Well Nick decided the guys needed their own kind of party that was a little different. He asked me if I would tell you about it. At first I said no…neutrality and all that. But then he appealed to that part of me that is a sucker for a young entrepreneur looking for a little publicity. He asked if he could send some products and maybe I could MENTION them. I thought maybe I could do a piece about brands pushing the envelope in our industry, doing things differently, and weave a mention of them in. (And I still may do that post, because the influx of venture capital dollars is bringing fresh ideas to our industry and making us better, in my opinion.)

But for now, I give you Man Cave, the first home party company for men. Nick sent me some products and a catalog. And it made me laugh. So here you go. (Now go join the DSA Nick!)

Hubby asked me what it was I had ordered?!?

Ah ha!

I can honestly say I have never received beer nuts from a direct selling company before.

The catalog is a hoot. Full of "Man Laws" and things like a grown-up sized Jenga game called "Man Blocks." Too funny!

The Beer Pager may be my favorite thing in the catalog. Do you think I can use it for a cup of coffee???

And I really need a grill brush. Do you think they let girls order?

They also sent me brats in philly cheesesteak and buffalo wing bleu cheese flavors. Sounds like a party waiting to happen!

So just like your typical direct selling companies, you can host a party with ManCave (they call them MEATings…of course) where you can “eat, drink, and be manly.” You can play Hammerschlagen and Man Blocks. And drink beer.

Really, is there anything else to be said?

    I don’t think it’s a ds company anymore. Shame.

You’re right Amie. This is an older post. At the time it was a direct sales company, but I believe they’ve transitioned into a mail order company.

it has nothing to do with sales…but I actually own the domain eatdrinkandbemanly.com and run a food blog there…just happen to stumble across this website.

I entered the world of ManCave and i am loving it. I am currently a consultant with other DS companies, but this is going to be fun and the brats are delicious. Yes, I have entered the ManCave. Some men even let their wives attend – ha, ha. The games are fun and watching them eat is better.

I really like the concept of this. Actually, it is nice to see a company that has great gift ideas for men. I try to shop with direct sellers whenever possible and last week was looking for a birthday gift. Even a lot of the ladies in my family are not all about make up, fashion or decor and I was having a hard time finding something to ship to Florida for a relative. It occurred to me that direct selling does not serve the men or plain Jane very well.

    Thanks, for the article.

ManCave was really worth writing about, Jen. Good reminders to all companies about how important it is to inject fun into their business. Congrats to Nick Beste for this terrific concept and clever execution.

I have been involved in direct sales for 13 years – Man Cave is truly something different it appeals to men of course but it also appeals to women who want to host something they know their husbands will enjoy.

I am a rep for ManCave and let me tell you that it is a blast to hold the Meatings. Women have just as much fun as the guys do if not more. I couldn’t be happier with the company and the future that they have.

Oh. My. Gosh. That is hilarious! I love it!

This guy deserves to be a HUGE success!

… and whilst we usher our husbands out for their ‘manly’ parties, well, we could just have another girls get-together all of our own!

I love the name of the “MEATings.” I know there a lot of men out there who love to snack. I wish him much success.

You have to love his ingenuity and thinking outside the “box”…and into the cave!
