I am very fortunate to be able to share with you the perspectives of several folks within our industry who are instrumental in using social media in the context of direct selling.  It is because of the efforts of these individuals that the direct selling industry as a whole is moving forward in its adoption of social media.  These folks are truly pioneers, and I am thrilled that they are willing to provide guest posts for us all to enjoy.

Here’s an introduction to each of these fantastic folks:

Mark Bosworth
Sr. VP Sales and Marketing, SwissJust

Mark is a 20+ year Direct Selling executive. His background includes an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from The University of Chicago.  He has worked as an engineer for General Electric and a Consultant for The Boston Consulting Group.  He has managed sales, marketing, and strategic initiatives for some of the most prestigious companies in the industry.  He has worked for Tupperware, PartyLite, The Body Shop, and currently runs Sales and Marketing for SwissJust in Miami.  Mark was the originator of PartyLite’s Candle Connection, one of the first company-sponsored customer email programs.  He was also instrumental in PartyLite’s first Consultant online ordering system.  He has  been involved in the earliest online direct selling communications/message boards and continues to be an observer and participant in the evolving area of technology and Direct Selling.

Jenny DammannJenny Dammann
Social Media Coordinator, Creative Memories

They said it couldn’t be done. They said Creative Memories was mad to try. But behold, a crazed experimentation has produced a hybrid of techie, creative and cool. And they call her Jenny Dammann. Jenny is the Social Media Coordinator for Creative Memories, a company that pioneered the scrapbooking industry. Jenny began working with Creative Memories in 2007 as a web marketing specialist before shifting her focus to social media efforts in the fall of 2009.  She is now the voice behind Creative Memories’ online social media presences.

Beth Dornan
Social Media/Digital Public Relations Lead, Amway

Beth Dornan, Social Media/Digital Public Relations Lead for Amway Corp., was one of Amway’s first bloggers.  She also led the strategy and team that created the company’s blogging portal, the Opportunity Zone, and other ground-breaking social media efforts.  Today Beth manages Amway’s Media Blog, which shares news from the world of Amway with news media and the company’s distributors and consumers.  Beth has more than 25 years’ experience in journalism, public relations, and social media.  She blogs at http://mediablog.amway.com and http://amwayglobalinsider.opportunityzone.com/ and can be found on Twitter as @BethDornan.

Tim Haran
Senior Social Media Specialist, USANA Health Sciences

Tim Haran is the Senior Social Media Specialist at USANA Health Sciences, a manufacturer of high-quality nutritional supplements in Salt Lake City, Utah. A former journalist, Tim started as an all-purpose writer at USANA in 2007 before moving to the newly created social media/public relations department in late 2008. Since then, he’s overseen the company’s day-to-day social media initiatives and is the primary contributor to the award-winning What’s Up, USANA? blog.

Robin Luymes
Principal, Luymes Public Relations LLC

With more than 20 years experience, Robin Luymes is a leader in the public relations field, particularly in the use of social media and digital space to manage an organization’s web reputation. A former business journalist, Luymes led Amway’s U.S. public relations and web marketing efforts, including its groundbreaking use of social media to engage its key audiences. Today, as principal of Luymes Public Relations LLC in Grand Rapids, Mich., Luymes provides crisis communications, media training, social media and media relations services. Dave Sattler
Web Marketing Strategist, Scentsy

Dave is a web marketing strategist and has worked with PetSmart, Intel (China), and MarketRx. Most of Dave’s work has been around helping consumer product companies identify word of mouth and interactive strategies to drive conversion and generate brand loyalty.

At Scentsy, Dave drives online marketing and branding strategies for Scentsy corporate as well as facilitating online evangelism by both consultants and consumers through the use of social media. Dave is a sought after presenter with casual, researched, and ROI driven presentations ranging from “Web Marketing Basics” to “Internet Marketing Using Google Analytics” as a University guest lecturer.

Dave earned an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management where he was selected to join the schools external consulting team specializing in consumer goods marketing.
