I am very fortunate to be able to share with you the perspectives of many very smart people within our industry who are instrumental in using social media in the context of direct selling. It is because of the efforts of these individuals that the direct selling industry as a whole is moving forward in its adoption of social media. These folks are truly pioneers, and I am thrilled that they are willing to provide guest posts for us all to enjoy.

Sr. VP Sales and Marketing, SwissJust
Mark is a 20+ year Direct Selling executive. His background includes an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from The University of Chicago. He has worked as an engineer for General Electric and a Consultant for The Boston Consulting Group. He has managed sales, marketing, and strategic initiatives for some of the most prestigious companies in the industry. He has worked for Tupperware, PartyLite, The Body Shop, and currently runs Sales and Marketing for SwissJust in Miami. Mark was the originator of PartyLite’s Candle Connection, one of the first company-sponsored customer email programs. He was also instrumental in PartyLite’s first Consultant online ordering system. He has been involved in the earliest online direct selling communications/message boards and continues to be an observer and participant in the evolving area of technology and Direct Selling.
Social Media Coordinator, Creative Memories
They said it couldn’t be done. They said Creative Memories was mad to try. But behold, a crazed experimentation has produced a hybrid of techie, creative and cool. And they call her Jenny Dammann. Jenny is the Social Media Coordinator for Creative Memories, a company that pioneered the scrapbooking industry. Jenny began working with Creative Memories in 2007 as a web marketing specialist before shifting her focus to social media efforts in the fall of 2009. She is now the voice behind Creative Memories’ online social media presences.
Social Media/Digital Public Relations Lead, Amway
Beth Dornan, Social Media/Digital Public Relations Lead for Amway Corp., was one of Amway’s first bloggers. She also led the strategy and team that created the company’s blogging portal, the Opportunity Zone, and other ground-breaking social media efforts. Today Beth manages Amway’s Media Blog, which shares news from the world of Amway with news media and the company’s distributors and consumers. Beth has more than 25 years’ experience in journalism, public relations, and social media. Senior Public Relations Specialist, Amway Global
Cindy Droog enjoys being with her two young sons, making her community a better place, and doing her job as senior public relations specialist for Amway, where she assists the company in its blogging, community management, and proactive and reactive response efforts in the digital environment. She led the formation of the Amway Social Media Business Council, a cross-functional team that provides guidance, processes, measurement standards and training across the Amway enterprise, including to employees, global affiliates and distributors. Cindy is a lifelong writer and former business columnist with a journalism degree from the E.W. Scripps School at Ohio University. She holds her APR certification in public relations, and serves on the Board of Directors for aimWest, a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based organization that brings marketing and technology professionals together.
Sr. Director – Global Online Solutions, Mannatech®, Inc.
Brett loves marketing, direct sales, the Kentucky Wildcats and his family. But not necessarily in that order. He’s been working with both direct sales companies and direct sellers since 2002, and has learned a lot by just jumping in and trying stuff. In his time in the industry, he’s managed web marketing, product marketing, promotions, communications and even events. He is currently in charge of managing and improving the Mannatech online presence, both at a corporate level and by supporting its Associates. His responsibilities include overseeing the main corporate site, microsites, SEO, social media, email marketing and corporate blogging. His real passion is providing strategic marketing and communication ideas for entrepreneurs; the web just seems to be the best tool.

A former journalist, Tim started as an all-purpose writer at USANA in 2007 before moving to the newly created social media/public relations department in late 2008. Shane Martindale joined XanGo in March 2009 to lead the strategic search engine and social media strategies to help the company continue to increase global visibility and support distributor success.
A strategic guru and highly effective global marketer and businessman, Shane brings to the position nearly 15 years of business with a reputation for developing and directing successful online business and marketing initiatives. Shane’s previous experience includes Senior Marketing Manager at Nu Skin Enterprises, where he was responsible for developing new online marketing initiatives and enhancing brand value. Most recently, he led search engine and social media marketing as Senior Web Marketing Manager at Mona Vie.

Dave is a web marketing strategist and has worked with PetSmart, Intel (China), and MarketRx. Most of Dave’s work has been around helping consumer product companies identify word of mouth and interactive strategies to drive conversion and generate brand loyalty.
At Scentsy, Dave drives online marketing and branding strategies for Scentsy corporate as well as facilitating online evangelism by both consultants and consumers through the use of social media.
Dave earned an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management where he was selected to join the schools external consulting team specializing in consumer goods marketing. Lori Sauerwein is Director of Strategic Development and social media champion for Reliv International, based in Chesterfield, Missouri. Lori’s career spans more than 25 years in the direct selling industry and encompasses field communications, sales promotion, new product development and strategic marketing. Today, she manages Reliv’s strategic planning process. Lori is passionate about social media, direct selling, her family and sci fi.
