My philosophy in helping direct selling companies with their social media marketing strategies has always been that we learn more together than we do in silos. Last year, very few direct selling companies has comprehensive social media programs. We gathered in Las Vegas at the DSA Marketing & Communications seminar to begin talking about the subject, and explore early successes.
What a difference a year makes.
This week I’ve had the privilege of attending the Marketing & Communications track of the DSA Be Connected conference again. And this year has been remarkable. Listening to companies talking about Facebook Page engagement, mobile application development, backend consultant forum deployment…the list goes on…has been inspiring.
But what’s even more inspiring is that we’re sharing lessons learned with each other. Competitors are sitting down in rooms, asking questions about how a company has done something, and getting answers. We’re talking about what worked, what didn’t work, and how to improve next time. We’re identifying best practices together.
Social media for direct selling is different from social media for the rest of the world. We have unique advantages and challenges. So you can’t learn how this works for our industry from books exclusively. You need to talk to the people in the trenches…the people who are living this day to day.
In my opinion, the DSA Be Connected conference is a stunning success. Because of this spirit of collaboration, the industry as a whole benefits. Every consultant in every company can count on stronger tools and programs to help her or him build a thriving business which helps the family and the community. All because of the spirit of sharing that exists among the colleagues sitting here. And what a remarkable thing that is.
