Save handmade toys from the CPSIA

If you’re not yet aware of it, February 10, 2009 may turn into what has been dubbed “National Bankruptcy Day” when thousands of small business and home-based business owners are forced out of business due to legislation enacted by the Consumer Products Safety Commission.

This affects all products made for children 12 and under, and pertains, primarily, to the lead content found in those toys. As a mother of 3, I am completely in favor of safe toys for kids, but the problem is that the government is now requiring 3rd party tests…that run in the thousands of dollars…on every product for children 12 and under, even if those products are made of components already tested safe, or are known not to contain lead. There are many, many people who will be forced to shut their doors due to the cost of this new mandated testing.

I urge you to learn more about the CPSIA and help us ask President Obama to rethink this law that will bankrupt so many in an already terrible economy. The last thing we need right now is MORE people out of work.
