The Importance of Community in Social Selling

“No man is an island.”

“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

You’ve heard these quotes before. But have you ever stopped to consider how closely they relate to your direct selling/social selling business?

Ask any direct seller what they love most about their business, and it’s very likely that the answer will be “the people.” Working together is what makes the business both fulfilling and exciting.

But it’s more than that. If you truly want to be successful in direct selling, you can’t work alone. Sure you can sell products on your own. And you’ll make a nice commission. But if you really want to grow in your business, you need to help others grow too. It takes a community to build a really powerful business.

Together you can:

  • Train. Each member of the team brings a different perspective and approach. By training others on your team, and learning from their successes, you all become better at the business. And this helps all of you become more successful than you would on your own.
  • Laugh. Selling by yourself is fine, but it gets old by itself. Business is just more fun when it’s shared with others. Look on Facebook and you’ll see great photos of teams laughing together on the company incentive trip, doing the conga at the company convention (perhaps while wearing matching feather boas!), and having a blast celebrating someone’s birthday at a team meeting. It is the community that nurtures the soul, and makes the business more fun for the long term.
  • Make a Difference. As a team, you have the potential to touch more lives. By yourself you can do fundraisers, offer the opportunity during your sales appointments, and touch people’s lives. But imagine what you could do times 10. Or 100. When you build a team, you exponentially increase your ability to make a difference in the lives of others. And you also feed the people on your team, because making a difference makes them feel great too. It can make people happier, healthier, whole. Don’t hold back that gift you can give to others. Spread it as far and wide as you can.

While there are many reasons that “social selling” is taking the world by storm, the community is a big part of it. When we work together, we are able to do more, be more, enjoy more. Don’t just do your business by yourself…you’re missing out on a lot of the benefits! Form your community. Build your team. You’ll find that the effects are far reaching, and your business will be more fulfilling than you can possibly imagine.
